The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) on Valentine's day presented assorted food items mainly cocoa products worth GHC1,000 to fete basic school pupils at the Twin-City Special school at Sofokrom in Sekondi.
The items which include cocoa powder, chocholate, chocholum among others, sought to put smiles in the faces of the disadvantaged children.
A Principal Administrative Officer at the GTA, office in Takoradi, Miss Aya Baidoo who made the presentation on behalf of the Ag.Western Regional Manager of the GTA, Mr. Michael Kpingyi said the Valentine Day has been declared as Chocholate Day.
The theme for this year's Chocolate Day celebration was "Eat Ghana, Eat Chocolate".
She said the move forms part of measures to promote Made In Ghana Goods to project the domestication philosophy in the country.
Miss Baidoo advised Ghanaians to take keen interest in cocoa products since they were generally good for the body.
Receiving the items on behalf of the school,the Headmistress, Madam Crescentia Efua Bilson-Sai expressed profound gratitude to the GTA for making the welfare of the children their concern.
She said in spite of the physical and psychological problems facing the children, teachers in the school continue to do their best to assist the children acquire the relevant education needed for self-actualization in life.
A teacher in the school, Madam Emily Anyigbavor later told the GNA that students in the Pre-Vocational stage of the school, were being equipped with vocational skills such as doormats-making, beads-making,hairdressing,cooking as well as animal husbandry.
