Ghana-US pact: No propaganda tonight – NDC to Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has sent a note to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, begging him to this time around, not to engage in propaganda gimmicks as he speaks on the controversial Ghana-U.S. military agreement tonight.

In the view of the umbrella family, Ghanaians are so much eager to hear from the President speak on the said agreement and would therefore invited expect nothing but the truth.

“President Akufo-Addo should tonight be truthful with information about the Ghana-U.S. military deal because it concerns each and every individual in this country. We don’t want him to come and engage in the same propaganda gimmicks that his two ministers, Mustapha Hamid, Minister for Information and Dominic Nitiwul, Minister for Defense, have subjected the nation to”, General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah noted at a press briefing in Accra, Thursday afternoon.

He added ” We have come to a point where we all have to engage but we must engage based on facts and not propaganda at all. We must understand what the deal is that we are pushing the into and then based on that every citizen of Ghana will take a decision one way or the other”.

President Akufo-Addo is expected to address the nation tonight over the controversial military agreement between the Government of the Republic of Ghana and the Government of the United States of America which was ratified by Parliament on March 23, 2018.

It is not clear what the President is going to talk about besides what has been in the public domain by the Ministers of the Interior, Defense and Information, Ambrose Derry, Dominic Nitiwul and Mustapha Hamid respectively.

On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, thousands of Ghanaians from civil society organisations and opposition political parties walked through some principal streets of Accra to protest against the deal noting that per the terms of the agreement, the sovereignty of Ghanaians have been sold to the American Government.
