Ghana and Ivory Coast to harmonize transport systems

Accra, Dec.9, GNA - Vice President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday said Ghana was now committed than ever to implement the African unity concept initiated by Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

He told a six-man visiting Ivorian delegation that enough statement on African unity had been made and "we need to actualize the dream". "We must be able to remove the artificial boundaries now, form a common market and be able to attend funerals in our neighboring countries without hindrance".

Mr Mahama said the benefits that would come to the people through integration of the West African Region were immense. He said Africa was faced with developmental challenges but with one purpose to fight a common enemy, unity would be a success. The delegation did not disclose the content of the message but it is believed Ivory Coast and Ghana were seeking to harmonize their transport systems so that a common protocol on transport could be adopted during the next ECOWAS summit.

Mr Mike Hammah, Minister of Transport said Africa needed to operate its transport system, especially in the aviation industry under an agreement that would not discriminate against African countries. 09 Dec. 09
