The Ghana Chapter of the Network of Professional Women in Maritime and Port Sectors of West and Central Africa (NPWMP-WCA) has been launched, creating another crucial avenue for the voices of Ghanaian women in the sector to be heard.

This adds up to increasing efforts of actors within the sector to promote an all-inclusive approach to dealing with pertinent issues.

The launch took place during the annual three-day seminar of the network in Tema, Ghana, where sustainability issues within the maritime industry were addressed.

First-elected President of the National Chapter of the Network, Abena Serwaa Opoku Fosu echoed the significance of the network in providing unique perspectives for the sector’s development.

“Women are the greatest reservoir of talent and we are more powerful when we empower each other. By including more women in the decision-making process we can bring different views and ideas to the table which can lead to better outcomes and a more inclusive environment for everyone,” she said.

The president, who is the Marketing and Public Affairs Manager of the Port of Tema, called on women in the sector to join the network so that collectively they can forge ahead in the quest for a holistic, inclusive approach to development.

“I wish to urge all women in the industry who wish to belong to the network not to hesitate, for we cannot make this journey alone as leaders but it is through your support, critique, and encouragement that we will achieve the goals of this network.”
