Local Government expert, Isaka Amon Kotei in an interview, has said that Ghana is not prepared to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking on Ahotor FM's morning show monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Isaka Amon Kotei said Ghana as a country is not prepared for any crisis management.

“Our general drug distribution store was burnt down some time ago as we speak I don’t know if it is back on track…Because only nose masks can not solve the problem…and if we don’t take care of the situation it might be worst”, he told the host Citizen Kofi Owusu.

He added that no country will be willing to give out medicine to fight the coronavirus at this stage as the whole world in this fight.

The Central Medical Stores at Tema containing every conceivable drug imported into the country before onward distribution to the various regions was razed by fire on January 13, 2015.

Ghana’s stock of medical supplies that was lost after the fire was estimated at GH¢237 million.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s confirmed COVID-19 case count continues to rise with effusive speed following the mandatory quarantine of some 1030 persons who came into the country via the Kotoka International Airport a day before it was finally shut to human traffic as a mitigating measure to stopping the spread of coronavirus in the country.

At 53 confirmed cases by the close of Tuesday, March 24, 2020, the Ministry of Information has reported a quantum leap of fifteen (15) overnight, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 68 as at Wednesday morning.

“The sudden spike in case incidence is as a result of the mandatory quarantine and compulsory testing for all travellers entering Ghana, as directed by the President”, the Information Ministry said in its situation update.

“Overall, 30 of the 68 cases have been reported in the general population with the remaining cases among persons currently under mandatory quarantine”, the update added.
