Ho, Dec. 13, GNA-Mr Nick Fobih, a Human Rights Expert on Thursday advocated a constitutional reform to enhance democratic governance in the country.
He said such reforms would shift government's focus on only political rights to other socio-economic rights to promote good governance and accelerated development. Mr Fobih said these at a two-day workshop organised by Journalists for Human Rights (JHR) for media practitioners in Ho. He said the reform should establish an independent body to investigate the police in their misconduct to reduce corruption and promote accountability among the citizenry. " This reform should also put civic education in the schools curriculum to make civic life part and parcel of the Ghanaian child", Mr Fobih said.
He noted that such initiative would instill honesty and discipline in children to arrest corruption in their early ages. Mr Fobih expressed concern about the extravagant life of some politicians and asked journalists to expose corrupt politicians because their actions border on human right issues. He also urged them to practice developmental journalism and promote human rights. The participants were taken through government accountability, corruption and police brutality, among others.
