Ghana on the right track – Mahama

President John Mahama has said he is “in no doubt" that his country “is on the right track”.

Mr. Mahama said his recent travels to France and Japan underscored that belief.

Delivering the keynote address at the launch of the redesigned national newspaper, Daily Graphic in Accra on Friday, Mr. Mahama said: “…Our nation continues to receive impressive ratings from the international community- be it in Africa, Asia, Europe, or anywhere in the World”.

“On my recent visit, I have been left in no doubt that our country Ghana is on the right track and that we need to persevere and continue to push in the right direction in order to create the land of prosperity, decency and dignity that we all desire”. Mr. Mahama averred.

He said: “As I speak, Japan has agreed to restore to Ghana the Yen Loan facility which was withdrawn about a decade ago when we decided to go HIPC”.

HIPC is the Highly Indebted Poor Countries Initiative of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund which Ghana and 38 other poor under-developed countries, with debt overhangs, subscribed to, so they could benefit from debt relief and other economic assistance from the two Breton Woods Institutions.

President Mahama described the restoration of the Yen Loan portfolio as a “major one”.

He also noted that: “The decision by the French Government, through the Agence France de Development to pump another 250 million Euros into various projects in Ghana are all welcome developments”.
