Ghana politics is better off without NPP - Tony Aidoo

Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation at the Presidency Dr. Tony Aidoo says the electorates must reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December elections.

He says the NPP has poor human rights and economic management records and voting it back into power will be disastrous.

Dr. Tony Aidoo was addressing the NDC’s setting the Records Straight Forum in Accra on Monday afternoon.

“Is this the democracy we [want]? This country will be better off if we can get the NPP out of the politics of the country. We have seen them in power for eight years and we know that the leopard cannot change its spots,” he said.

He accused the NPP of spearheading an agenda of vilification, tribalism and ethoncentrism against thousands of Ghanaians during their time in office.

“The NPP has not changed since the 1960s when they used to kill and maim innocent women because they had different linguistic or tribal origin. But they were Ghanaians,” he narrated.

He taunted the NPP’s Anthony Karbo who is being investigated for making comments that could disturb the public peace, saying Mr. Karbo has gone into hibernation after his alleged secret plots of bringing in “bad boys” to cause mayhem in the election came to light.

“Are Ghanaians going to sit and vote for these people? We should not be afraid to set the record straight because for all the years that we have been an independent country, the NDC has given the best administration of this country than any other political party apart from Kwame Nkurmah.”

He said the conditions in which the PNDC came to meet Ghana was such that if the NPP had been in charge, the country would have been a failed state.

But in a swift rebuttal, the Deputy Communications Director of the NPP Yaw Buaben Asamoah disagreed.

He slammed the NDC for superintending the highest form of corruption since independence.

He alleged that the NDC is rather signing deals with an embassy in Accra to pay judgement debts because it fears losing the December elections.

“Midnight deals are being signed in the hope that in the event the NDC loses this election, they will have these contracts ready to execute and they will be such dubious contracts that a new government of the NPP will have no option but repudiate those contracts and in so doing, they then set us up.”

He said the NDC is planning to saddle the NPP with judgement debts to create the impression that the NPP also pays such judgement debts while in office.

Mr. Buaben Asamoah therefore warned the embassies allegedly involved in the said deals to pay heed and stay away from such potential diplomatic rows.
