Ghana’s 3rd coronavirus case in Obuasi not true though in quarantine

Coronavirus Coronavirus

It has turned out that the widely reported case of Ghana’s third coronavirus patient tested negative at the laboratory.

www.3news.com gathers that the patient, a worker of Underground Mining Alliance (UMA) in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region has been quarantined, nonetheless.

There were media reports on Saturday that an expatriate miner, who flew into Ghana and thither Obuasi via helicopter, was said to have contracted the deadly disease.

Most media outlets reported it as Ghana’s third case after two confirmed cases announced by the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, last Thursday.

But a memo to staff from UMA’s Project Manager in Obuasi, Alf Gamett, and sighted by 3news.com said the employee was indeed taken ill but the Covid-19 test run on him came out negative.

“He remains quarantined until he fully recovers,” the memo on Saturday noted.

“The Company is taking all the necessary steps to ensure the safety of all employees with regular updates being shared with our team.”

Mr Gamett called for calm among employees.
