The founder and Chief Executive Officer of the KAMA group of Companies, Dr. Agyekum Addo has said Ghana’s education system locks up the potential in graduates to survive on their own.
“Our educational system blinds us and locks up our potential to make it,” Dr. Addo told host of Morning Starr Nii Arday Clegg Thursday on Starr 103.5FM.
The pharmacist who became homeless at age seven said Ghana’s educational system must be structured in a more practical way so graduates can use those skills acquired to start a business on their own.
“Out there, education is a practical scenario… but over here, the best student is the one who can chew and pour.”
Dr. Addo challenged unemployed graduates to think outside the box and create opportunities for themselves rather than expecting someone or a company to employ them.
“We must all have this entrepreneurial mind… gathering all our resources and put them together to make a business venture then you are an entrepreneur, you can make a profit or loss but you are an entrepreneur.
“…Can’t people even bag air and sell? How on earth did we think we could bottle water and sell water and now we are selling water anyhow anywhere, so there is so much that we need to learn and everybody needs to learn...all these graduates are stuck with whatever they studied...their minds are not open.”
He added that graduates must overcome their pride and must be able to venture into all forms of jobs including selling 'kele wele' and not only chase after white collar jobs.
