Mr. Nii Doodo Doodo, Country Director of the British Council for Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Cameroon, has urged educators to help reform the country's educational sector by introducing methods to make education more practical and less theoretical.
"The ministry must try to reform the curricula and take the infusion of more practicals more seriously in order to produce graduates that would solve national problems," he said.
With that, the Country Director said the future would be bright as far as education and Ghana's development were concerned.
His comment came after the 21st Convocation of about 150 students from BlueCrest College from the IT department, Fashion, Mass Communication & Journalism, and Business Studies at the GNAT hall in Accra.
"This is one of the problems we are facing as a country, and I believe if our educational system is geared towards a more practical one and exposes the students to hands-on work and not just reading of books and answering questions, we would go a long way to improve our educational system and help develop this nation as a whole," he stated.
He applauded the Government's commitment to making TVET number one in the country and revealed that the British Council is more concerned about technical and vocational training; that's why they have partnered with BlueCrest College to give more practical skills to students. Mr. Dodoo believes that when students are practically oriented, they can start their own businesses after school and would not depend on the government or anyone for jobs. He also suggested that there should be a collaboration between educational institutions and industry players whereby students can go to such companies for more practical and working experience during vacation days to be more in-depth before completion.
He thanked BlueCrest College for imparting knowledge and skills to Ghanaian youth and encouraged them to stay focused on their goals.
"It has made people realize that there are intellectuals in Ghana and have the ability to think far, as it is not just the other world out there, but there are people on this side of the world who can express intelligence," he said.
Mr. Pankaj Maheshwari, Group CEO of BlueCrest Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, expressed gratitude to parents and loved ones for showing up to support their wards and also congratulated the graduates for the endurance and passion they have exhibited during their stay at the institution.
"We have launched BSc Cyber Security and Digital Forensics and BSc Entrepreneurship Technology and Innovation," he said.
Students who excelled in their various fields were awarded, as Ms. Beatrice Dede Addy was crowned the overall best graduating student.
