Ghana’s female MPs up in arms

Some female Members of Parliament in Ghana are up in arms against their male colleagues for frustrating them.

According to the female lawmakers, their male counterparts are undermining efforts to empower them and that is a sad development.

Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, the MP for Asokwa Patricia Appiagyei told Starr News the male legislators prevented them from singing the women anthem on the floor of parliament to commemorate the International Women’s day.

“It doesn’t look like our men are interested in our course. Our men are only paying lip service to women empowerment,” Appiagyei said.

“Look at how the men were very much against [us singing the women anthem.] I see our men are not seriously enthused to promote the gender of women equal representation in Parliament,” she told Starr News Ibrahim Alhassan.
