The Lovers of second hand under wear have until February next year to purchase their favorite ‘undies’.
That is because the Ghana Standards Board has resolved to implement a law invoked in 1994, banning the importation of the material.
Head of Public Relations at the Board, Kofi Amponsah Bediako confirmed this to Joy News in an interview on Wednesday.
He said his outfit is only an agency, executing a policy by the Trade and Industry Ministry to reactivate the ban on the importation of second hand materials.
He said the ban includes second hand handkerchiefs, mattresses and sanitary wear.
Mr. Bediako said his outfit has begun a comprehensive education and sensitization policy to ensure that the dealers in such materials will comply with the policy.
From February, 2011 the Board will begin seizing such materials illegally imported into the country.
The dealers have expressed worry that a source of their income was about to be taken away, but Mr. Bediako explained the ban is in their own interest.
