Accra, Aug. 17, GNA - A four-day Afro Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARDO) Executive Committee Meeting is schedule to begin at the Ghanaian capital, Accra from August 23 to August 26. The meeting which would be held at the M' Plaza Hotel marks the 52 Session of the Executive Committee.
A statement signed by Mr Frank Asante, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development; said the meeting would deliberate on coordinating efforts in promoting the eradication of hunger, poverty, illiteracy and diseases among rural population in AARDO member countries in Africa and Asia.
The Statement said it would also serve as a platform to coordinate efforts of member countries towards poverty eradication in Africa and Asia.
Ghana would be hosting the Executive Meeting for the third time after it had hosted the AARDO's 33rd and 34th meetings in March 1990 as well as its 10th General Conference.
AARDO, which has it headquarters in New Delhi, India, is made up of 27 member countries and Ghana has been a member since its inception in 1965.
AARDO has assisted Ghana financially to establish a number of projects and it is currently assisting the Twifo-Heman-Lower Denkyira Assembly in the Central Region to build a day care centre at Twifo-Heman.
The statement said AARDO was also helping Bolgatanga Weavers, Bonwire/Dumakwai Kente Weavers and Aburi Wood Carvers and Batik Cooperative Society to build their capacity in entrepreneurial and managerial skills and technology transfer in their respective micro-projects.
