Ghana to host first Clergy Conference

Accra, Sept. 29, GNA - Ghana is to host the first International Clergy Association (ICA) conference and Awards Night, expected to shape the direction of the association and the formulation of a code of conduct to regulate activities of members.

The event, which comes off from October 5 to October 10 in Accra, would bring together some 300 delegates from more than 15 countries including Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil and Venezuela.

Bishop Dr Charles Abban, President of the ICA, who interacted with the media, said the conference would be preceded by national and district conferences designed to deliberate on the business of the association.

President John Atta Mills is expected to deliver the keynote address. He said the conference would also give birth to a business philosophy, the ICA business Trust, which would be the business wing of the association.

The awards night would honour 50 deserving clergymen and women who have made positive impact on the profession and society. Bishop Abban said the conference would review the activities of the ICA since its establishment in 2008 and the way forward. It would also come out with modalities and a framework for a code of ethics that would regulate the priestly work of the ICA. Delegates would have the opportunity of visiting the Cape Coast Castle, Kakum National Park as well as pay a courtesy call on Osabarima Kwesi Atta, Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area. The climax of the conference would be a thanksgiving service on October 10 in Accra.
