Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, says the whole country is expected to be ‘flooded’ with nose masks in the coming week towards the fight against Coronavirus.

This follows worry from frontline health workers who have threatened to withdraw their services should government fail to supply them with Personal Protective Equipments (PPEs).

According to the Minister, the Minister for Trade and Industry has selected five local companies tasked to produce 3.6 million nose masks for health workers and the general public.

“As I speak, the Minister for Trade and Industry has selected five local companies to produce 3.6 million nose masks and we will take delivery of about 150,000 each day which will start by tomorrow and within the next 7 days or so the whole country will be flooded with these nose masks, especially for health workers”

“For the next few days, we will have ample PPE’s for all health workers,” Mr Agyeman-Manu said this in a press briefing today, April 7.

Ghana has so far recorded 73 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the total count to 287.

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) in an update on its website on April 6 said with the institution of the enhanced contact tracing and testing measures, Ghana has recorded an increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases.

"The regional distribution of the cases are as follows: Greater Accra Region has most cases (258) followed by the Ashanti Region (18), Northern Region (10), Upper West Region (1), Eastern Region (1) and Upper East Region (1),” the GHS said.
