Ghana will end up deeper in the mire under Akufo-Addo – Asiedu Nketiah

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has slammed the Akufo-Addo administration for forming the largest executive in the history of Ghana.

According to him, the large size of Akufo-Addo’s government shows he is lost on the priorities of the nation, insisting that this may end up sinking the country deeper in the mire.

The President came under intense criticism when the final list of Deputy Ministerial nominees was released yesterday, bringing the total number of Ministers to 110.

Speaking on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah questioned the government’s justification of the biggest size of the executive in history formed by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, describing it as insulting.

“They just insulted us further by saying that we did not promise a lean government. Are they therefore implying that anything they didn’t promise they have liberty to do? They must come out to tell us what it is in terms of value for money that we’ll be gaining as a nation out of that appointment. But just to come and say we didn’t promise a lean government so we have liberty to do whatever we wish, I think that it is rather rubbing pepper in the wounds.”
Reacting to comments from pro-government elements that the President needed a strong army to face the tumbling economy, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah said such argument “doesn’t make sense.”

“We are talking about competence; Is he telling us that when you have an incompetent person doing one job, you’ll need three competent people to be doing that same job? If you argue that you have a bigger vision so you need this large size of Ministers to form government, then you must as well take three vice Presidents to help you at the Presidency.”
