Ghanaian Adventist In Denver, Colorado

Seventh-day Adventist worldwide take the gospel commission seriously. Their firm believe in the imminence of Christ second advent has always motivated them to organize themselves for witnessing in the communities wherever they are.

Since early 1990's with the arrival of several Ghanaian immigrants to the USA and Canada, Ghanaian Seventh-day Adventist have organized more than 20 Ghanaian SDA Churches in North America. The latest one is the Rocky Mountain Ghanaian SDA Church which is in Denver, Colorado. "The motivation for coming together to start a Ghanaian SDA Church here in Colorado stem from the fact that as christians we are to witness to our faith wherever we go as diasporian Ghanaian Adventist" so states Elder Kwaku Danso, a charter member of the Rocky Mountain Ghanaian SDA church. "And we are happy that God can use us to start the spreading of the SDA church here in the Rocky Mountains." he adds.

According Mr Danso "we are following the footsteps of our other Ghanaian Adventist in the east coast of United States who have managed to start several Ghanaian Adventist churches in states such as New York, Maryland, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts and others" The benefits of having a Ghanaian church is enormous as evidenced in the way these Ghanaian Adventist churches have been able to forge together in helping Ghanaian immigrant families to maintain their faith in God even in overseas. Kwaku Danso is optimistic that with the organization of the Ghanaian church in Denver something great has bugun in a small way. He continues: "Having a Ghanaian church here in USA helps us to worship in our own unique cultural ways as we have been doing back home in Ghana. We are able to preach, sing, discuss and fellowship in the vernacular that helps in nurturing our members who face several challenges in overseas. Members are able to participate and exhibit leadership roles in all aspects of church work something which is not possible when Ghanaians worship in white caucasian or non-Ghanaian churches in overseas"

Today there are over 40 Ghanaian Adventists who worship weekly at Rocky Mountain Ghanaian SDA Church which is situated on 11400 East Mississippi Avenue off Colfax Avenue in Aurora, Colorado 80012. As word keeps spreading about this church planting efforts by these Ghanaian Adventist in Denver, they are determined to share their faith to those who live in Denver and its surrounding communities such as Arvada, Aurora, Lafayette, Lakewood, etc.

Recently the Rocky Mountain Ghanaian SDA Church has hosted several visiting Ghanaian Adventist Pastors such as Pastor M.A. Bediako, the Executive Secretary of the worldwide SDA Church, Pastor Opoku Acheampong from Andrews University in Michigan, and the latest to do so is Pastor S.K Twumasi, the secretary of the North American Ghanaian Adventist churches. According to the believers anytime there is a guest speaker from out of state "dozens of non-Adventist Ghanaians respond to our invitation and worship with us". In the words of assistant church elder Mr Bio "This shows that we have a goodwill among the Ghanaian community here in Denver which is also a sign of future potential growth"

And among the many community-based programs initiated by the Ghanaian Adventist church here in Denver is the opening up of community center for low income earners which is headed by Barima Yaw Boadi Amponing who is the church clerk of the Ghanaian Adventist Church in Denver. This according to the project cordinator "is in conformity to Christ's commission to the christian church to take care of the less fortunate ones" This is what these Ghanaian are bent on doing for others to share their faith in God.
