The Deputy Ranking Member of the Education Committee in Parliament, Clement Abas Apaak, has appealed to the government to take immediate action to halt the deportation of some Ghanaian students from the Government of Ghana Scholarship in the UK.

This comes on the back of sack letters issued by the UK Visas and Immigration to some Ghanaian students in the UK.

“Your permission as a student has been cancelled so that it now ends on 09 November 2024.

“You still have permission until 09 November 2024 and the current conditions of your stay will continue to apply until then. Please ensure that you comply with these conditions.

“You do not have a right of appeal or administrative review against the decision to cancel your permission,” a portion of the letter by the UK Visas and Immigration stated.

Commenting on the matter, the Builsa South lawmaker expressed worry over the matter and the development impacts on the image of the nation.

“Some Ghanaian students in the UK on GOG Scholarships have been sacked because the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government has failed to pay their fees.

“In fact, this is a disgrace to our nation. The Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government must take immediate steps to correct this wrong done to the students and to the image of Ghana.

“Some affected students have been given options, including leaving the UK or facing further sanctions, including detainment and prosecution by the UK authorities”, Dr. Apaak stated.
