Ghanaian community in Beijing celebrate Independence Day

The Embassy of the Republic of Ghana, Beijing held a magnificent reception in Beijing to mark the 61st Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Ghana on Tuesday, 6th March, 2018 at the Grand Ballroom of the Regent Hotel, 99 Jinbao Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing.

In attendance were members of the Ghanaian community in Beijing, members of the diplomatic corps, Chinese businessmen and women, friends of Ghana and representatives of the Chinese Government led by Mr. Chen Xiaodong, Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.

In his address, Mr. Edward Akwasi Boateng, Ghana’s Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China recalled the excellent and longstanding relations between the Ghana and China dating back to the 1960s. He further noted that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries have grown from strength to strength as exemplified by the High-level visits, intensive interactions and exchanges between Ghanaian and Chinese Leaders. Ambassador Boateng pointed to the very successful Official Visits to China by the Vice President H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the First Lady, H.E. Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo in June and November 2017 respectively as well as the visit to Ghana in August 2017 by Mr. Qian Keming, the Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic China as further testaments to the enduring bonds of friendship between Ghana and China.

He expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of the republic of Ghana, to the Government and People of China for their continuous support towards Ghana’s development efforts.

On developments in Ghana, Ambassador Boateng stated that the bold economic reforms being implemented by the Government under the distinguished leadership of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have begun yielding positive results which is reflected in the stabilization of the economy, the revival of business confidence, increased foreign direct investments and the rolling out of initiatives such as the Free Senior High School programme, one District on factory among others.



He noted that the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was determined to “build an economy that is not dependent on charity and handouts, but an economy that will look at the proper management of its resources as the way to engineer social and economic growth in our country.” He therefore called on Ghanaians in China, to support the government in its bid to build a Ghana beyond aid.



In conclusion, he assured the Government of China of Ghana’s steadfast support and adherence to the One China policy and its resolve to consolidate and expand the strategic partnership and cooperation between the two countries in the years ahead.
