Ghanaian judges introduced in th Gambia

Two new judges of the Supreme and High Courts were Friday introduced to the bar and bench.

The judges S. A Brobbey and Justice Mabel M. Yemoa, both Ghanaians, are now the new chief justice of The Gambia and judge of the High Court respectively.

Justice Semega Janneh, who introduced the judges said Justice Brobbey, during his 42 years of judicial service, has been at the forefront of judicial reform, education and training both in Ghana and abroad.

?He served for six years as a legal consultant to the Zimbabwe Government and Judiciary during its independence and in Namibia where he served under the United Nations Institute on Namibia.

The new Chief Justice, born in Kumasi, Ghana in November 1941 studied in Ghana and the UK. He has served as circuit court judge, judge of the High Court and in November 2002 was appointed justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana.

Justice Brobbey a former vice president of the Commonwealth Judges and Magistrates Association trained Ghanain and Post Namibian magistrates and also served in different capacities in private, government and international organisations.

He was described by Justice Janneh as humble, active, intelligent, humourous and a man with many good ideas.

Justice of the High Court

The new Justice of the Gambia High Court, Justice Mabel Yemoa was born on November 3, 1962 and studied law at the University of Ghana from where she proceeded to law school to obtain her Barrister-in-Law.

Between 1996 and 2000 she served as the vice-president of the Association of Magistrates and Judges of Ghana and a member of the Commonwealth and Magistrates Association. Until her recent apointment, she was justice of the High Court in Tema, the Harbour City, Ghana.

Both new judges expressed appreciation to the Gambia Government and people for their support. They urged the bar and judiciary to collaborate with them during their services.
