Ghanaian soldiers return from Sierra Leone

Accra, Sept. 14, GNA - Brigadier General Joseph Boakye Danquah, General Officer Commanding the Southern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, on Tuesday reminded soldiers not to allow themselves to be entrapped in misguided adventurism. This is important, especially as the country is preparing for the December elections. He asked the soldiers that instead of engaging in any misguided action it was better for them to contribute their quota to the nurturing of the country's young democracy to ensure peace, stability and development.

Brig Gen Danquah made these remarks when he addressed soldiers of UNAMSIL GHANBATT 9, who had returned home from peacekeeping mission from Sierra Leone, at the Kotoka International Airport. The mission consisted 25 officers and 114 men who were there for six months. Gen. Danquah said, "For the six months of your tour of duty in Sierra Leone you saw the havoc, helplessness and selflessness, conflict could bring to a nation. He said, "Share the good lessons and the experiences you have gained with your friends and family for a better Ghana." He praised the soldiers for the outstanding performance during their mission "in spite of the enormous logistical challenges."

The fight against armed robbery is gathering a new momentum, which must be eradicated. He advised them to exercise absolute neutrality whenever they found themselves dealing with internal conflict situations and avoid any partisan act that could tarnish the image of the military.
