AC Milan’s talented Ghanaian striker Isaac Akuetteh is fighting for his life in an Italian hospital after being knocked down by a train in the town of Como.
The 15-year-old, who is regarded as one of the brightest talents in the youth football in Italy today, was hit by a moving train on Sunday afternoon leaving the youngster fighting for his life.
The accident occurred in the Italian municipality of Cadorago in the Como province during the Sunday after shopping hours which attracted a very large crowd.
Akuetteh was rushed to the hospital where he has been under intensive care, and Ghanaian senior players at AC Milan Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien are said to have visited on Sunday night after their match.
AC Milan top officials and coaches also visited the youngster in hospital before posting a statement on their website wishing him a speedy recovery.
“Isaac, all of Milan is with you and hoping for the best. Do not give up,” the AC Milan statement read.
While several versions of the story have been widely reported, some Italian newspapers claim the youngster had his headphone on while listening to music in the lead up to the accident.
The 15-year-old Italian-born Ghanaian is the lead-man for Bertuzzo Roberto’s Settore Giovanile boys bagging an incredible 21 goals in 17 games for the Rossoneris last season, as Ghana’s leading football news outlet www.ghanasoccernet.com first reported on his exploits last year.
Akuetteh is one of the three Ghanaian youngsters at AC Milan and is keen to follow the path to greatness.
He could join the Milan primavera squad next season due to his immense quality and precocity despite his tender age.
He’s at Milan with Nigel Kyeremateng and Kingsley Boateng, who has already played for Milan’s first team but is now playing for Dutch side NAC Breda.
