Ghanaians Jailed In UK for drugs

Two Ghanaians, Rebecca Ama Atobrah and Major Daniel Kweku Bonsu (rtd) have been sentenced to 18 years and 11 years imprisonment respectively in London for drug related offences. London-based Rebecca Atobrah was arrested during investigations into a criminal case by the British authorities last year.

In the course of investigations, Rebecca was identified as the head of a major crack cocaine syndicate operating in the United Kingdom.

Her sister, Christiana Atobrah was also arrested by the US Drug Enforcement Agency last year for similar drug offences.

Major Bonsu was also found guilty on a charge of exporting three tonnes of compressed marijuana in a 20-foot container to the UK. He shipped the consignment through the Tema Port in the middle of this year, with the help of security officials and clearing agents who are currently assisting the Ghanaian authorities in their investigations. Major Bonsu who was enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces in May 1970, retired in February 1990.
