Ghanaians abroad eager to vote in 2008

Nkoranza (B/A), Oct 16, GNA - Ghanaians living abroad have shown keen interest in the Representation of the Peoples Law and have expressed their eagerness to vote in the 2008 general election, according to Major Derek Oduro (rtd), MP for Nkoranza North. Briefing the Ghana News Agency about his recent tour of Europe during which he interacted with Nkoranza citizens, urging them to invest in development projects back home.

The MP, who visited France, Great Britain, Spain, Italy and Germany.

He said it was the wish of the citizens that government should provide the necessary structures to ensure that people understand the law adequately.

He commended Nkoranza citizens resident abroad for living in unity and promoting the welfare of the community. Major Oduro said the citizens appealed for a reduction in duties imposed on personal goods, including vehicles they brought home so that they would be encouraged to offer meaningful contributions to national development.

The MP stressed the need for the Ministry of Ports, Harbours and Railways to help address the problem. The MP said some foreign investors agreed to visit the constituency to study the possibility of investing in education, health and agro-processing.

The Nkoranza area is a major producer of vegetables including garden eggs and tomatoes, as well as water melon.
