Ghanaians called to support government's fight against indiscipline

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, has called on individuals, parents, religious bodies and traditional rulers to support government's efforts at fighting indiscipline for national development.

In an address read on behalf of the Regional Minster at the second speech and prize-giving day of Mabang Secondary-Technical School in the Ahafo-Ano North District last Saturday, he said discipline and handwork was perquisite for socio-economic development. Mr Boafo appealed to students to be disciplined and to study hard to enable them pass their examinations to justify the huge investment made in their education by their parents and government.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Joseph Darfour Asomaning, commended supports being made by the district assembly, VALCO Fund, Otumfuo education fund, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mabang Traditional Council and Mr Kwame Owusu Frimpong, Member of Parliament of the area towards the development of the school.

He said there was a remarkable improvement in the academic performance of the school for the first time since its establishment 12 years ago, adding that three out of 18 students presented for the 2003 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination qualified for university.

Mr Asomaning mentioned the lack of adequate accommodation for students and teacher, school bus and science laboratory as some of the problems facing the school and appealed to the government and the assembly for help.

Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, Omanhene of the Bechem Traditional Area, who represented Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, called on Ghanaians to collaborate efforts in the fight against HIV/AIDS.. He reminded the youth that HIV/AIDS was real and advised them to abstain from pre-marital sex. Nana Gyeabour Akoto inaugurated the school's computer centre.
