National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has stated that Ghana’s economy has been destroyed under the Akufo-Addo administration.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) inherited a robust economy from the NDC, which included two oil fields and a strong manufacturing sector.

He however accused the NPP of destroying these achievements and misleading the public about the state of the economy they inherited.

Speaking at the launch of the NDC manifesto in Winneba on Saturday, August 24, 2024, he said, “the economy collapsed for the past seven years. The government has also introduced a plethora of taxes that are visiting excruciating hardships on our living conditions.”

He highlighted the economic hardships faced by Ghanaians, including the unprecedented sight of pensioners picketing at the Ministry of Finance.

“Our policies are anchored on principles, the principle of respect for the people. We left behind a manufacturing sector that was wrong, two oil fields, a strong cocoa sector,” he said.

National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, echoed these sentiments, asserting that the NDC has an “unmatched track record,” despite efforts to convince Ghanaians otherwise.

He emphasized that the current administration has significantly damaged the country.

Minority Chief Whip Kwame Agbodza, speaking to TV3 ahead of the launch, claimed that the 2024 NDC manifesto will focus on key areas such as corruption and job creation, aiming to address the problems created by the NPP.

“The manifesto will focus on issues of corruption, state capture, issues of great concern to every Ghanaian, job creation,” he said.

The manifesto launch, held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Auditorium of the University of Education, Winneba, featured the Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama as the Special Guest.

The event was attended by members of the National Executive Committee, the Council of Elders, Members of Parliament, Parliamentary Candidates, and distinguished guests from various sectors, including the Diplomatic Corps, Clergy, Civil Society Organizations, Academia, Labour Organizations, and Creative Arts.

Various speakers addressed the nation on the NDC’s transformational vision for resetting and building the Ghana they envision.
