In terms of performance on the scale of 10, the Akufo Addo-led New Patriotic Party (NPP) government scored a paltry 4.5 percent in its two (2) years in office.
That is the damning assertion of Hon. Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the achievements of the current administration.
According to the Minority Chief Whip of Parliament, in spite of the fact that the Akufo-Addo government borrowed over $50 billion dollars in two years in office, there is nothing significant to show for it.
Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, Hon. Muntaka challenged the Akufo-Addo administration to show one factory which has been established under the “One-District-One-Factory” program by the government itself.
He rather asserted that the government is only attaching itself to individual entrepreneurs establishing their businesses; claiming to be part of the “One-District-One-Factory” after helping to paint the factory as such.
“Show me one factory which has been established by this government under its ‘One-District-One-Factory’ program and it has started working. The government only attaches itself to individuals establishing their own business and help in painting as ‘One-District-One-Factory’. Is that what they promised? Look at their manifesto. Let them show me only one factory and not two of which this government established as One-District-One-Factory in two years”, he dared.
He pontificated that the Akufo-Addo’s government is just using cosmetics and slogans. To him, though much effort is being put in the policies, there is little or no result to show for it.
“The thing is that if you lie to get power, the truth will take you back to opposition; that is what is happening to them. 2019 has just begun and so let’s pray for the best under this government...I will not wish anything bad for this government”, he stated.
He however charged the government to wake up and work hard with the over $50 billion borrowed money despite the fact that the NPP chastised the NDC for borrowing.
“...when they were in opposition they said there is money in the country and they will not borrow money outside but they have borrowed $50 billion in less than 2 years and yet there is nothing to show for it”, he stated.
“Take whatever they have said and compare them to two years in office and see what is happening...on the scale of 10 percent of performance of this government, I will be generous to give them 4.5 percent. Enough of the efforts of this government, we want results,” he added.
