Ghanaians on social media enraged by Akufo-Addo's anti-corruption fight speech

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The emotions of Ghanaian social media users seem to have been triggered by President Nana Akufo-Addo’s speech at the 2019 Bar Conference in Takoradi.

The president in his speech, recounted the feats his government has reached in dealing with corruption in the country, particularly in the public sector, as well as, clearing some misconceptions about his role as president.

But this seemed not to have resonated well with many Ghanaians who took to their various social media pages to vent their displeasure.

To many, the president only used the platform to do his usual job of ‘clearing’ himself and his appointees of any misdoing, instead of providing viable solutions to tackling the proliferation of corrupt activities under his watch.

In what ran through most of the comments, people recalled how Akufo-Addo touted his ability to tackle corruption while in opposition and how he is actually tackling it as the president.

Twitter hashtags that trended number one and four were both nicknames of the president’s initiatives that have soulfully been tainted with corruption; #GhanaBeyondCorruption and #1Day1Fraud. Originally, GhanaBeyondAid and 1District1Factory, respectively.

Meanwhile, some staunch ‘believers’ of the Akufo-Addo led administration remained unfazed as they continued to root and tout his achievements in his corruption fight.

Some have even gone ahead to compare and rate the corruption perpetrated in the Akufo-Addo led administration and the erstwhile Mahama administration.
