Former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ejisu/Jauben in the Ashanti Region under the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Yaw Afrifa Yamoah Ponkoh believes, the nominee for the Special Prosecutor position, Mr. Martin B.K.A Amidu is enjoying the goodwill of many Ghanaians.

“Ghanaians are pampering him too much …he is even becoming popular than President Akufo-Addo who appointed him”, the former government appointee observed.

“What kind of person is he…..there is nothing new he can bring onboard as Special Prosecutor. What?”, Hon. Afrifa Yamoah Ponko quizzed on Kumasi-based Nhyira FM’s morning show

“I don’t see him as a person who can fight corruption in government”, the NDC Communicator told host Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin during a panel discussion.

Meanwhile, ace Broadcast Journalist, Paul Adom Otchere, believes the immense public support for Martin Amidu, may have already determined the course of lawsuit against him over his age.

Commenting on the lawsuit, Mr. Adom Otchere remarked that “the courts, historically, will not rule to affect the higher expectations of society. Typically they may not do that.”

A former Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, in a lawsuit, argues that Mr. Amidu, aged 66 years, has exceeded the age for such public office holders, per Article 199 of the constitution.

He said it would be unconstitutional for Parliament to approve the nominee seeking a declaration from the Supreme Court that Mr. Amidu is not qualified or eligible to be nominated as the Special Prosecutor.
