Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says Ghana’s borders are still under threat of illegal smuggling of persons, despite the closure of same some weeks back.

According to him, although government is working at massively reducing the numbers and occurrences, it is still early yet, for them to say their ‘real target’ is zero.

This is because there are still some factors including the smuggling of infected persons through the country’s borders.

“Zero and we will have some occurrences so it’s your ability to early contain and limit the spread that you have look at as a measure of success. In this instance, you noticed that the early efforts limited the importation of cases into the country.”

“Even with the closure of the borders, we have Ghanaians still smuggling in positive cases into our borders but by closing the borders, we have massively reduced the risk,” the Information Minister said in an interview on the Citi Breakfast Show on Wednesday.

Ghana closed its borders; air, land and sea in March 2020, to avoid further importation of the virus from other highly-infected countries.

Meanwhile, the case count of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Ghana stands at 636 as at Wednesday, April 15, 2020. The number includes 17 complete recoveries and 8 deaths.
