A religious leader has entreated Ghanaians to abide by the principles and values that have sustained the peace in the country.

Bishop Dr. Fred Agogo, leader of the International Church Call (ICC), urged Ghanaians to see themselves as one people and not to allow anything to divide them.

He urged the leadership of the various organisations in the country to ensure that their members refrained from abusing the dignity of opinion leaders and those in responsible positions.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nsawam in the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipality of the Eastern Region, he said, “We must resolve to do everything possible and necessary to lend our support to the development of our nation” and “avoid using violence to settle issues”.

Bishop Agogo who was also one-time Principal of the Bible College of Ghana, said Ghana called for the inculcation in the youth, the spirit of patriotism, to be nationalistic, when they take over the mantle of leadership. He stressed that nation-building needed the collective effort of the citizenry to help achieve the required impact.

Bishop Agogo observed that, the country needed a peaceful atmosphere, which was the pre-requisite for the growth of multi-party democracy.

The Clergyman urged Ghanaians to refrain from threatening mayhem, using violence and abusive language to settle social scores, saying, such situations would not augur well to facilitate the democratic development of the country.
