Black Stars left-back Gideon Mensah has expressed delight after making his injury comeback during AJ Auxerre's game against Brest in Ligue 1 on Saturday.

The Ghana international has been out for 72 days with a knock, missing Ghana's World Cup qualifiers in June and the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in September.

Mensah replaced Clement Akpa after the hour mark to make his first appearance of the season as Auxerre strolled to a 3-0 win.

"72 days later," an excited Mensah posted on his social media pages after the match.

Mensah has been a key figure at the club since joining them at the end of his loan deal at Girondins Bordeaux in 2022.

Meanwhile, in a thrilling contest at the Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps, Mensah's international teammate Elisha Owusu broke the deadlock with a stunning strike.

Jubal doubled the lead before half time and Hamed Junior Traorè sealed the win in the second half after meeting an Owusu assist.

The defender's return to action is huge boost for the Black Stars ahead of October's Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
