Gifts Fm Annual Aponkye Cup fixed for Dec 29-30

Dormaa-Ahenkro based radio station, Gifts Fm will from 29th December to 31st December, organize the eighth Annual Aponkye Cup at the Sakasaka Park, in Dormaa-Ahenkorah.

The event, which is an inter-community football competition would assemble 24 teams, who would engage in prelims before qualifying to the knock out stages - an improvement upon the previous events.

The 2017 event would reward the first three teams as well overall best player and well behaved team, unlike the previous year's where only the ultimate winner is awarded.

At a programme to ballot and draw the various teams into groups, Mr. Alexander Obeng, Event Coordinator, said the event is aimed at promoting good health and physical fitness, unearthing talents for the various national teams and premier clubs, as well as fostering unity among the various communities in the area.

Mr Obeng said, 24 teams were due to take part in the competition drawn in eight different groups comprising three teams each.

He said "eight teams have been ceded in each of the group, these are those who competed in last year's competition".

The competition has so far produced players like Obeng Kwadwo Junior (Nea Salamina), Opoku Ebenezer (Aduana Stars) and Goalkeeper Godfred Yeboah(Aduana Stars) among others.

The overall winner would receive one goat and products from Biegya, while the second and third positions would receive GH¢ 150.00 and GH¢100.00 respectively plus products from Biegya.

The overall best player would receive a mobile phone and the best behaved team would get items from Biegya.

The competing teams include SMS, AB, AT/OT, Delasso boys, OYB/NT, Northerners, Nkyenkyenkye, KDS, Stadium Boys, Golden boys, Amangoasebadukrom, Ahantrase, Mother and father, Mandela Boys, Estate Boys, Kokoaa/Danyame, Atesikrom Parliament, Ola Boys, Abenwoha, Low cost, Awase, and Badukrom.
