Girl sold for four million cedis

Five people have been remanded in prison custody by a community tribunal at Assin Praso for selling a five-year old girl for four million cedis.

They are Ewusi Yankey also known as Connection 36, Yaw Gyimah, 37, Maxwell Andoh, 48, Solomon Masachie, 20 and Kingsley Antwi, also known as Kofi, 16. A source at the Police Headquarters in Accra told the “Times” yesterday that the girl Afiyah, went missing on 26 August at her parent’s residence at Assin Praso.

The police later arrested Kingsley Antwi upon information that he was seen with Afiyah at about 1.30pm on the day she was reported missing. When interrogated on the whereabouts of the girl, Antwi mentioned the four other persons and accused them of selling the girl.

According to Antwi the four accused persons asked him to send the girl to Solomon Masachie’s home for a fee of four million cedis and although he performed his side of the deal, the other accused persons failed to pay him.

The source said based on Antwi’s testimony, the four accused persons were arrested and they also confessed to selling the victim to Okoh also known as “Lion” and his friends at Assin Ankofedi. The friends are, however, at large.

The accused persons contend hat Okoh and his accomplices have not yet paid them any money even though they had taken the victim away to an unknown place. The source said the police have intensified their search for the girl and the alleged kidnappers.
