Girls, be wary of gifts from men, Education Officer

Nkoranza (B/A) Jan. 6, GNA - Miss Agartha Osei, Nkoranza District Girls Education Officer, has cautioned school girls to be wary of men who offered them gifts and money to lure them into sex.

He advised the girls against alcoholism, which could lead them into engaging in pre-marital sex and contracting HIV/AIDS or getting pregnant. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Ms. Osei expressed concern about the poor standard of education among females in the district and advised parents to take proper care of their young daughters and to provide them with their basic educational needs. She urged parents to be mindful about the movement of their children after school hours to steer them away from bad peer groups who could put their lives in danger.

Ms. Osei appealed to school girls to look up to women in responsible positions as their role models and to pursue higher education to be able to acquire gainful employment in future. She appealed to assembly members, unit committees and traditional authorities to educate parents to take the education of t heir children seriously and support them.

"Religious leaders should also use the pulpit to promote girl child education to correct the wrong impression of some parents that the kitchen is the only place reserved for females", Ms. Osei added. 06 Jan.10
