Dr. Abu Bonsra, from the Global-South Health and Relief Agency (GHARA), has praised Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), for leading the organisation to make significant progress and strides.
He noted that it seems like the "voices that matter" have remained silent.
The NHIA recently disbursed an amount of GH¢151 million to healthcare providers nationwide, which is in addition to previous disbursements that went unnoticed by the public.
Dr. Abu Bonsra expressed surprise that the opposition, particularly the NDC and the minority caucus in parliament, have not commented on this recent development, especially since they previously accused the government of undermining the scheme.
In a statement, he mentioned that he hoped the NDC and the Minority would acknowledge the efforts of the NHIS in achieving their goals.
"At least I was expecting them to be honest and sincere enough to acknowledge the fact that the scheme is doing extremely well to live up to its responsibilities, which include committing to the sustainability and efficiency of healthcare delivery in the country.
"Well-meaning Ghanaians and professionals like some of us will not look on the politicians to politicise such important issues. It is therefore incumbent on us to commend when necessary, and also condemn when need be. It is on this basis that I commend the current leadership of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), specifically, its CEO, Dr Da-Costa Aboagye, for this good job," Dr. Abu Bonsa stated.
