Give Red Cross budgetary support

Jachie (Ash), Dec 27, GNA- Mr Francis Obeng, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the Ghana Red Cross Society, has appealed to the government to give the Red Cross Society the needed budgetary support to enable it to function well.

He said lack of funds is adversely affecting the Society.

Addressing members of the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district branch of the society at Jachie last Friday, he said although the society plays a very vital role in the country, lack of funds has crippled it. Mr Obeng said the society is to train a lot of First Aid personnel and placed along most major roads in the country to enable them to save lives during accidents.

He said most accident victims die because they do not get the needed attention immediately and are also not properly handled. Mr Obeng disclosed that the Ashanti regional branch of the society was building an emergency health post at Pankrono, a suburb of Kumasi on a land provided by the Pankrono Catholic Church. The project would be funded through levies on members and their dues.

He said the national secretariat plans acquiring ambulances for all the regions and districts for emergency services and appealed to NGOs, churches, the government and philanthropists to assist them to achieve their objective.

Baffour Amoateng III, Jachiehene, who is the district chairman of the society, pledged support for the society and appealed to chiefs in the area to support it.
