The Electoral Commission (EC) has dared the NDC to go to court if it has any tangible proof that the Gomoa East by-election, held on Tuesday was rigged by the NPP. The NDC failed to sign the final results alleging that the election was not free and fair.
But the EC says the NDC is crying wolf where there is none; it has lost the Gomoa East by-election and members are dishonestly alleging that the NPP rigged it.
Deputy Electoral Commissioner in charge of Operations, Kofi Arhin says the commission will not conduct any investigation into the allegation because it believes it conducted a clean election. ''If anyone believes he has any case, he can petition, and in any case, as soon as the results are gazetted, you have 21 days within which to petition'' he told the Ghanaian Chronicle newspaper.
The by-election was held on Tuesday, following the death of the MP of the area. The NPP polled 11,380 votes, NDC ? 5,356 while the DPP polled 175.
At the end of it all, NDC General Secretary, Dr Josiah Aryeh said the ruling party bought votes and intimidated NDC operatives and voters, but NPP General Secretary, Dan Botwe pointed out that all the NDC agents at the 81 polling stations endorsed the results, proving that the elections were free and fair.
