Go listen to church confessions; you don't belong to UEW - Duku to V-C

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Rev Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Rev Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Rev Father Prof Anthony Afful-Broni is a “divisive” character who is not fit to head a university, the President of the UEW Chapter of the University Teachers Association of Ghana UTAG), Dr Frimpong Kaakyire Duku, who is one of three lecturers recently sacked by the V-C, has said, adding that Rev Father Afful-Broni must leave the school and go to the church to pray and listen to sinners confessions.

According to Dr Duku, a man in cassock should not be, in his estimation, as vindictive and divisive as Rev Father Afful-Broni is.

Dr Duku was dismissed together with Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh and Prof Sarpong.

Prof Afful-Broni, in a letter, cited misconduct and insubordination among other reasons for his action but the lecturers have denied any wrongdoing.

The action of the V-C has sparked protests by the students and alumni on campus.

The angry students claim Prof Afful-Broni has fired 12 lecturers since he came into office last year.

The students say they want their lecturers back and will not stop protesting until their demand is met.

Reacting to his dismissal on The Citizen Show on Accra100.5FM on Tuesday, 12 March 2019, Dr Duku said the woes of UEW began when Prof Afful-Broni was appointed as V-C.

He told show host Bobie Ansah that: “Not until 2017, you never heard any bad news about UEW. Any news about UEW before now was progressive but this man thinks being a V-C is also an ordination and he thinks God has ordained him to be a V-C at all cost. He is the cause of all these problems happening on campus.

“He [Prof Afful-Broni] is now the V-C and he wants to fire everyone who is against his appointment to the extent that he wants to fire me, the local UTAG president. Who will speak for UTAG-UEW if I’m gone?

“That’s why the students are angry and agitating. They say they want him out, he should go to the church and listen to our confessions when we come to church because he is bad at managing a university… He is deliberately divisive and wicked… A pastor who does this is not fit to be in the university, he should go home and pray…”
