God will provide funds for 2004 campaign - Obed

The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Yao Obed Asamoah has thanked delegates of the party for exercising their democratic rights to choose Professor John Evans Atta Mills as the flag bearer of the party.

Obed Asamoah confessed that although he had tipped Dr Kwesi Botchwey to win at the historic NDC primaries, he is not disappointed since the will of delegates overrides his personal wish. Botchwey was my preference, yet there is nothing for me to do now except to bow to the decision of congress since it is the will of God, he said.

I have to bow to the decision of congress. All of us now have to join hands to support Prof Mills since this is just the beginning of the real battle, as the Founder of the party said and we should all help Prof Mills to defeat President J.A. Kufuor.

Asked how the party was going to win the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections since the party secretariat claims the NDC is broke, Dr Asamoah replied that God will provide, adding we shall raise the needed funds when the time comes.

He expressed the hope that now that a flagbearer has been chosen the insults and casting of insinuations that preceded the party’s congress would be over.

Dr Asamoah denied that he supported Dr Botchwey as a pay back for the failure of Prof Mills to choose him as running mate in the 2000 elections. He told Peace FM that he strongly believed that there was something good in Kwesi Botchwey.
