Accra, Oct. 4, GNA - Gold Fields Ghana and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), have launched a joint leadership development programme to enhance the skills of key middle management personnel. Dubbed: "The Gold Fields GIMPA Leadership Programme," the one year programme modeled on Gold Fields core values of safety, responsibility, innovation and delivery, will equip participants with the strategic tools and skills to lead transformational change and progress at Gold Fields Ghana.
The Programme also seeks to promote Gold Fields strategic objective of localization, which aims to increase the number of local professionals in the senior management of the company. Professor Franklyn Manu, Dean of the GIMPA Business School lauded the collaboration with Gold Fields Ghana. He said since leadership was the core objective in the Gold Fields Strategy, GIMPA's comprehensive programme had been designed to prepare the participants to become future leaders of Gold Fields Ghana. Mr Peter Turner, Executive Vice-President for West Africa and the Managing Director of Gold Fields Ghana, said the mining industry was constantly adapting to change and therefore required innovative leaders, who would drive the industry forward here in Ghana. "A key tenet of this will be to have a strong capable human resource. In realizing our vision of being a leader in sustainable gold mining our most important asset is our people who will form the corner stone of a sustainable business for the future," he said. Mr Turner urged the participants to take advantage of the course and expressed the hope that the Leadership Programme would give the managers the requisite skills and exposure to become future leaders of the company's business. Professor Yaw Agyeman Badu, Rector GIMPA, who launched the Programme, said the management skills that would be acquired during the programme when put to use could propel them to the top of the company. The courses outlined include, people management, understanding the work environment, personal learning and skills in service delivery.
