Gold Fields to upgrade T&A Park into modern sports stadium

Gold Fields Ghana Limited is set to upgrade the Tarkwa and Aboso (T&A) park into an ultra-modern sports stadium.

Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency in the Western Region, Hon. George Mireku-Duker joined to cut sod for the commencement of reconstruction of the T&A park into an international 10,000 seater-capacity stadium.

The GHC65 million project will be financed by Gold Fields Ghana Limited as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities.

The T&A stadium when completed, will become one of the best in the Sub-Region, serving as grounds for home matches of Tarkwa-based teams, National matches and boosting tourism.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, the Executive Vice President and Head of West African Operations of Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Mr. Alfred Baku indicated that, Gold Fields Ghana Limited will make sure the project is delivered on time and called for the support of regulatory authorities to ensure the facility is maintained very well.

Mr Baku also indicated that the Apinto Government Hospital will be rebuilt into a modern facility and at the request of Hon. Duker will with immediate effect donate two Ambulances to the two medical facilities in Tarkwa.

On his part, the MP, Hon. George Duker thanked the management of Goldfields Ghana Ltd for having Tarkwa at heart and promised to make the President aware of the various development brought forth by them.



Hon. Duker seized the opportunity and appealed to the contractor to employ some local people to assist in the construction works.

He urged the residents of the area to support the contractor to complete on time and pleaded with them to rally behind President Akufo-Addo government to develop the area.

The residents of the area who spoke to GhanaWeb Western Regional Correspondent expressed their profound gratitude to the MP for fulfilling his 2016 campaign promise.

They promised to assist the contractor to complete the project on schedule.

"We thank God for having a hardworking MP, with good lobbying skills to develop the Municipal", they said.

The colourful ceremony which took place On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, brought Nananom, Representative of Ministry of Youth and Sports, the MCE for the area, some staff of Goldfields Ghana Limited, the media among others.
