'Golden Jubilee' flats inaugurated

A block of six 'Golden Jubilee' flats estimated at two billion cedis built by Kwaebibirem District Assembly for medical officers of the Saint Dominic's Hospital at Akwatia has been inaugurated.

Yaw Barimah Eastern Regional Minister, handed over keys of the block to Sister Miguela Keller, Mother Superior of the Dominican Sisters and Coordinator of the hospital's Primary Health Care Unit.

He said the project was in line with efforts by Government to improve human resource development in the country with the upgrading of some health facilities, including the hospital and 37 Military Hospital into Centres of Excellence to train Medical Officers.

Mr Barimah said in addition to the investment in health infrastructure, Government had improved conditions of service for medical personnel to retain them in the country.

The Regional Minister expressed appreciation to the dedicated service rendered by the Dominican Sisters for the past 47 years through the establishment of the hospital that had become the largest Mission Hospital in the country.

"Government funded the project in recognition of the sterling achievements of the hospital as a centre of excellence for medical practice in the country," he added.

Osabarima Kofi Boateng III, Akwatiahene, commended the Dominican Sisters for rendering selfless services to people in the area.

He said it was in recognition of their contribution towards the development of Akwatia that made the traditional council released lands free of charge for the hospital's development projects.
