Goldfields to undertake social investment projects

New Subiri (W/R), March 10, GNA- Abosso Goldfields Limited (AGL), has set aside $235,000 for infrastructure component of social investment projects in its areas of operations.

The projects would include construction of school blocks, supply of classroom furniture, support for teachers of Nana Amoakwa model school, donation of computers and other educational materials, award of scholarship to brilliant but needy students, provision of health facilities and rehabilitation of roads and culverts.

Mr Peet Van Schalkwyk, General Manager of AGL, said these at the inauguration of a three classroom block, furnished with furniture at New Subiri in the Mpohor Wassa East District of the Western region. He said the AGL was commitment to developing education because it was the best legacy the company could bequeath to stakeholder communities.

Mr Shalkwyk advised children to learn hard to enable them to pass their examinations to justify the huge investments their parents and government was committing to their education.

He said in 2008, AGL is spending $109,000 on ALP and will continue to feature prominently in subsequent years in the company's social investment spending and therefore urged community members to take the programme seriously to improve their incomes and standard of living. Nana Kwabena Amponsah II, chief of Subiri, commended AGL for its contribution towards the development of the area and cited that AGL had built a library and supported electrification project in the town.
