Gomoa Dawurampong (C/R), Aug 29, GNA - Professor Samuel M. Quartey, a Senior Lecturer of the University of Winneba was on Sunday elected as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman for Gomoa West.

Nana Kwamena Arhin, Gomoa District Chairman of the Ghana Federation of Practitioners of Traditional Medicine was elected as the Vice Chairman.

Other officers elected at the congress, which was conducted by officials of the Electoral Commission, were Mr Wisdom Agbotsiafa, Secretary, Mr I.K. Dadson, Organiser, Mr R K Yamoah, Youth Organiser, Mr I K Dauda, Propaganda Secretary and Mr R I Ayipeh, Assistant Propaganda Secretary.

The others were, Alaric Huseini Kassim, Treasurer, Miss Margaret Bentil, Assistant Treasurer and Mr Seidu Okorm, Assistant Organiser. Mr Allotey Jacobs, Central Regional Director of Operations the party, advised the new executives to see themselves as shareholders of the party and contribute towards its activities.

Mr Jacobs said ineffectiveness of the party's executives at all levels contributed to the defeat in the last general elections. He urged the new executives to work hard to turn the fortunes of the party round in the 2008 election.

People have now seen the difference between the NDC and the NPP and those who deserted it had started coming back, he said and urged the members to welcome them whole heartedly into their fold since politics was about numbers.

Mr Kofi Mintah, former Central Regional Chairman, urged the members to bury their differences and work as a team to reclaim the seat from the NPP.

Dr Don Arthur, a leading member of the party, said no party member should underrate the task of winning power in 2008 and called for total support for the executives and hard work.

Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, former MP for the area urged the executives to start looking for reliable polling agents for training since some uncommitted ones caused the party's downfall in the last elections. Mr Light Koomson, Central Regional Secretary, commended the members for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

Prof. Quartey gave the assurance that the executives would render dedicated service and called for support from the members.
