Gomoa chiefs congratulate President Mills

Apam (C/R), Jan. 12, GNA - The chiefs of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Area have congratulated Professor John Evans Atta Mills on his election and inauguration as the third President of the Fourth Republic.

In a speech delivered at a meeting at Apam, Obrifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, Omanhene of the Traditional Area urged President Mills to regard chiefs as partners in development and involve them in his programmes.

Obrifo appealed to Ghanaians, especially the media, not to regard chiefs' involvement in government's development agenda as doing partisan politics, which the Constitution debarred them from.

"We must be able to draw a line between helping a government to deliver and involvement in partisan politics," the Omanhene said. He appealed to Ghanaians to give the new President some time to settle down before bombarding him with requests. "It is true that he made some promises to the electorate during the electioneering campaign but let us give him time before holding him to honour them." Obrifo Ahor Ankobea expressed satisfaction about the President's commitment to unite the people by being a father for all and urged the political parties to give him the needed support.
