Two people on a motorcycle have been killed in a gory accident on the Dukes Filling Station stretch of road at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The crash occurred on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in the afternoon, a reporter with EIB Network in the Central Region told GhanaWeb.
The deceased are Augustine Effah, 22, the motorcycle rider; and Mark Agbe Akperpe, 20, the pillion rider.
According to eyewitnesses, the motorcycle rider travelling from Assin Juaso towards Assin Fosu attempted to overtake a taxi at high speed near the Dukes Fuel Filling Station.
During the overtaking manoeuvre, the motorcycle’s handlebar is said to have grazed the taxi’s driver-side rear, causing the rider to lose control.
The motorbike fell, and the pillion rider was thrown into the opposite lane, colliding with the front bumper of an oncoming Toyota Land Cruiser (GX145-23) travelling from Cape Coast to Assin Juaso.
Both riders were rushed to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu for medical attention but unfortunately died during treatment.
Their bodies are currently at the hospital's morgue awaiting preservation while the police investigate the cause of the accident.
