Do a personal inquiry from funeral parlours and you would be amazed to find out that certain families spend over GHc10, 000 on organizing a funeral.
Breaking the bank to have a befitting burial for a prominent person isn’t a strange thing to do in Ghana.
Should Mr. Kwamena Awotwe Pratt's revelation emerge as the truth, then one would be right to claim government is determined to cut down on high expenditure and organize a modest celebration for the late former President Mills.
Mr. Kwamena Awotwe Pratt, a member of the late president’s kinsmen and an ‘Asafohene’ at Ekumfi Otuam, stated on Okay FM that government had only given them GHc200 to organize the one year celebration. The event which would take place at the Methodist Park at Otuam, would host a lot of people, according to Mr. Awotwe Pratt.
The Asafohene indicated that they would host their guests with the GHc200 they have received from government and make sure the event ends on a remarkable note. From this same amount, Mr. Awotwe Pratt stated that they would hire canopies to erect and buy drinks to serve the number of people expected to attend the occasion.
He stated that knowing the late former president for whom he is, none of his kinsmen would want to mar his reputation by generating any unnecessary quarrel with government.
“We have spoken to our elders, and they tell us they have spoken to the government officials”, Mr. Awotwe Pratt noted.
