Gov’t supplies beds, mattresses to schools

The government is supplying 20,000 student beds and mattresses to 40 senior high schools (SHS) in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The region has already taken delivery of 5,000 of the beds and mattresses for onward distribution to 15 SHSs.

They are the Sunyani, St James Seminary, Chiraa, Nafana Presby, Goka, Jema, Kintampo, Yefri and Ahafoman SHSs.

The rest are Mim, Dormaa, Kwabre, Kwarteng and Busunya SHSs.

Mr Eric Opoku, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, presented the items to the schools on Tuesday and said those schools which had not received theirs would soon have theirs.

He warned the institutional heads against charging bed user fees, stressing that any headmaster or headmistress who would be caught would not be spared.

Mr Opoku, who is the Member of Parliament for Asunafo South Constituency, cautioned the head teachers against attempts to divert the beds, saying, a regional monitoring team had been established to supervise and ensure the items were used for the intended purpose.

He said the investment the Government was making in the education sector was enormous and advised the beneficiary students to capitalise on it and learn hard to be able to prepare adequately for their future.

Mr Kwadwo Osei-Asibey, Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of Education, commended the Government for the numerous efforts and the number of interventions put place to help improve on education in the region and the country at large.

He gave the assurance that the regional education directorate would supervise the distribution of the items and entreated the school authorities to monitor and ensure proper maintenance of the beds and the mattresses to benefit more students.
